Find Out About "open boat" Trips

Open

Be informed !
Often, some boats with a day unscheduled,
may advertise an "open boat" with the
expectations of putting a trip together.
But, here is something you should think
about before you make your reservations.
1. What is the boats reputation ??
2. Will enough people sign up ??
3. What will you do if the trip cancels ?
4. Will you get your money back if it cancels ?

Compare First ...  What is a real value ?
Look at our comparison of dive trips !!

It is unfortunate, but very often if a so called "open boat" does
not get the number of divers that are necessary for the boat
to run a profitable trip, then it will cancel.

While there are some "day boats" that specialize in "open boats" there are
some boats that have a lack of business that will also offer "open boats", too.
If you reserve a space with a boat that does not normally get the necessary
number of divers to operate, you do not get to go diving that day !
Ask Questions !

The majority of scheduled trips that are sponsored or chartered by a group are
in reality "open" to divers, and could be a wise choice, since the charter trip
could have a higher liklihood of operating that day. It is wise to determine a
boat's reputation, and if it is favored by divers, and has repeat business.

Reputable boats do not have a problem with being honest about the liklihood
of a trip operating, and understand that if you have a limited number of days
to go diving, then you can not afford to risk a boat that might not operate.
Some boats, however, may not care about you. It is up to you to find out
about the boat, and its reputation, and the liklihood of it operating.

The Sand Dollar has a great schedule of two-day trips and
single day trips that are open to divers. We do not schedule
"open boats" that depend on a certain number of divers.
The Sand Dollar operates from San Pedro, California

When you want to go diving, you can count on us.
Reliability, that is one reason so many divers return
to dive the Sand Dollar.
